The valve features a wafer-style body that fits between pipe flanges and is typically made of cast iron with a resilient seat for a tight seal. Replacement is necessary when the valve seat wears out, leading to leaks, or when the valve fails to open or close properly, disrupting the batching process. Its one-piece disc and stem design provides high flow rates and durability in demanding plant environments.
